Mod Tool tutorial finished!

Yay! After many weeks of painfull HTML converting, my Mod Tool curriculum is finally available and published to the format of this site. Check it out here.

The next challenge will be to update the content, as it was originally written a number of years ago, and definitely could use some refining.

Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that parts of the curriculum are taken directly from the publicly available Noesis tutorials. These guys have the real content, be sure to check them out too.

Just a quick update:

I hammered out 2 more pages of the MOD Tool Curriculum (Modules 12-13). The “Creating a Dynamite Prop” portion of the curriculum is nearly finished, with only touching up the final prop details remaining.

See the Entire Curriculum here.

Woo!

Status Update

Well, as is blatantly clear I have yet to find time to devote to RTCW, WildWest, Half-Life 2, or Unreal mapping. I have a new job that requires a good deal of my time, so it just hasn’t happened. I wont make any promises to myself as to when new content will land on this site – but given that I still think about mapping, and watch videos on the subject constantly, it IS only a matter of time.

As stated previously, a few of the things I still want to do:

  • Make Project Phi content available for download.
  • Tighten up the older RTCW tutorials and create a few new WW ones.
  • Continue working on the Softimage Mod Tool Curriculum conversion to the format of this site.
  • Return to mapping for Return to Castle Wolfenstein (and the WildWest).

Moving to UDK

The Unreal Development Kit is a vastly updated version of the UT3 Editor.  Initially I had concerns that it didn’t come with enough stock content to lend itself to modding or ambitious single map releases.  But it does, and this is a beautiful suite of tools.  And yes, this is old news for those who have been keeping up with Unreal for years.

There is a great assortment of Video Tutorials by 3D Buzz here.  This is where I am starting at least, and I’m already starting to visualize my first UDK map.  :)

WildWest Tutorial Map 02: Areaportals

I completed the second example map in my series of RTCW/WW Tutorials.
You can view the Tutorial here, or grab the example map here.

Enjoy!
